Editor's note: The following obituary was intended to run Sunday to correlate with the deceased's birthday. The Aspen Times regrets the oversight and is running the obit today.
Lois was born in Houston, Texas, to Helen and L.G. Alexander. She graduated from Mt. Carmel High School and then attended business college in Houston.
It was love at first sight when she visited Colorado and saw the Rocky Mountains. Always the pioneer, Lois brought her two young daughters, Donna and Roya, to live in southern Colorado in 1967, eventually settling on the Front Range.
While raising her daughters on her own, she attended Denver University and then started a career with the state of Colorado, where she retired in 2009 from her position as an engineering/physical science technician for the Department of Labor, Oil Inspection Section.
Lois was also a talented artist and writer and had a priceless sense of humor. While working at the state, she met and married Michael Leroy Struck on Sept. 17, 1979. Lois and Mike spent three decades travelling the country and exploring Colorado by RV with their children and grandchildren. It was during those travels that she found home again in the small farming town of Hotchkiss on the Western Slope of Colorado; she and her husband retired to Hotchkiss in 2010.
Most beloved mother, wife and grandmother, Lois died at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction after a six-month battle with complications from surgery.
Lois was preceded in death by her mother, father and her two brothers, David and Jimmy.
Lois was a devoted mother and best friend to her two adoring daughters, Roya Beklik and Donna Maurice (Kelly), and a loving and loyal wife to Mike. She is survived by her grandchildren, Cameron, Max and Phaedra in whom she delighted, as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Houston and New Orleans.
Memorial services were held Mother's Day weekend but her light and spirit are celebrated every day in the hearts of those who love her.
