Betty Rose Duroux March 20, 1944 to Aug. 30, 2013

Betty Rose Duroux, 69, passed away on Friday, August 30, 2013 in Glenwood Springs, CO. She was born in Aspen, CO on March 20, 1944, the first child of Almeda Letey Duroux and Rene Duroux.

Attendance a few days a week at Happy Times School began in 1975, leading to her moving into the first group home Mountain Valley Development Services provided in Carbondale in 1982. Since then Betty had been a full-time resident and touched the lives of staff, caregivers, and other residents while at the Silt and Glenwood workshops, including her love for their greenhouse and weaving programs.

Betty was an inspiration to all who knew her. Her big welcoming smile, bounce to wave to you and the twinkle in her eyes told everyone she loved life. She loved her family, polka music, holding babies and competing and winning at bowling, Special Olympics events like racing her electric wheelchair and cheering on the Rockies and Bronco teams each year. Betty's weaving skills were known throughout the valley and her beautiful multi-colored chenille yarn scarves are owned by numerous local friends and family members.

Betty is survived by her siblings Marlyn (David) Williams, Leroy (Janice) Duroux, Gerald Duroux and Mary Story, Roger (Abbie) Duroux, and Daniel Duroux, aunts and uncles, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and her family at Mountain Valley; caregivers, fellow clients and staff.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to everyone at Mountain Valley Development Services for the years of care, love and dedication given to Betty creating a happy and fulfilled life.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Betty's Music Fund at Mountain Valley Development Services, Box 338, Glenwood Springs, CO 81601.
