Leroy G. Paas, a longtime Roaring Fork Valley resident, died at home Dec. 31, 1999. He was 73.

Paas, whose family owns the Limelite Lodge in Aspen, was born July 25, 1925, in Edmond, Okla., to Harold and Nina Paas. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and afterward earned a degree in business administration from Central State University. He married Margaret V. Owen on Jan. 29, 1948, and they moved to Colorado five years later.

Paas was an avid outdoorsman and traveler who enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and hiking. He was equally at home catching tiger fish in Africa, marlin in Mexico or just sitting on the shore of Ruedi Reservoir waiting for a trout to strike.

He was a founding member of Christ Community Church in Basalt.

Paas is survived by his wife of 51 years; married children Dale and Charlotte Paas, and Sue and Rick Woolery; grandchildren Curtis, Weston and Margaret Ruth Paas, and Forrest and Spencer Woolery; and his church family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today, at Christ Community Church in Basalt. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ Community Church, 20351 Highway 82, Basalt, CO 81621.
