Not so saintly

Dear Editor:For those Israel defenders with selective memory who bemoan my lack of facts, here is a partial list of UN resolutions from http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.orgResolution 106: condemns Israel for Gaza raid.Resolution 111: condemns Israel for raid on Syria that killed 56 people.Resolution 171: determines flagrant violations by Israel in its attack on Syria.Resolution 228: censures Israel for its attack on the West Bank, then under Jordanian control.Resolution 248: condemns Israel for its massive attack on Jordan.Resolution 262: condemns Israel for attack on Beirut airport.Resolution 270: condemns Israel for air attacks on villages in southern Lebanon.Resolution 313: demands that Israel stop attacks against Lebanon.Resolution 317: deplores Israel’s refusal to release Arabs abducted in Lebanon.Resolution 337: condemns Israel for violating Lebanon’s sovereignty.Resolution 446: determines that Israeli settlements are a ‘serious obstruction’ to peace and calls on Israel to abide by the Fourth Geneva Convention.Resolution 452: calls on Israel to cease building settlements in occupied territories.Resolution 476: reiterates that Israel’s claims to Jerusalem are “null and void.”Resolution 497: decides that Israel’s annexation of Syria’s Golan Heights is “null and void” and demands that Israel rescind its decision forthwith.Resolution 605: strongly deplores Israel’s policies and practices denying the human rights of Palestinians.Resolution 607: calls on Israel not to deport Palestinians and strongly requests it to abide by the Fourth Geneva Convention.Resolution 608: deeply regrets that Israel has defied the United Nations and deported Palestinian civilians In all 429 resolutions against Israel were passed, and Israel was condemned 321 times. The U.S. veto of most of these resolutions is a contributing factor toward hatred of the U.S. by Middle Eastern citizens. Clearly the U.S. has a double standard when it comes to passing and enforcing UN resolutions; Iraq was brutally attacked for alleged non-compliance while Israel receives unrivaled support. To this day Israel illegally occupies the Golan Heights belonging to Syria, and the West Bank and parts of Jerusalem belonging to Palestine. In addition, Israel has the most advanced nuclear weapons program in the Middle East (developed illicitly), has repeatedly denied the IAEA access to inspect and regulate its nuclear facilities and refuses to sign the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. It is painfully obvious that Israel is not the saintly state its American Jewish defenders claim it to be, and certainly not worth the expense in lives and treasure the US would incur by attacking Iran in its defense.P.S.: Judy Kava, I’ll make you a deal; I’ll move to Iran when you move to Israel.Sue GrayCarbondale
