Dear Editor:

I need to respond to Jim Henderson’s judgment on the avalanche that claimed the life of Adam Dennis (“Death could have been avoided,” letters, April 14, 2011, The Aspen Times).

All accidents lend themselves to easy review of warnings of hazard, and though you do have half of your observations correct (temps were well below freezing Sunday p.m., and given aspect and temps, time of day was irrelevant), the only real truth about this event is that a group of knowledgeable, informed, and capable people made a decision that they paid for dearly.

Any further judgment is both brutish and completely unprofessional, and I am sure that whatever the organization that you belong to is greatly ashamed of your remarks.
