Norman Eugene Batchtel
Norman Eugene Batchel, 86, was born Jan. 30, 1921, in Kansas City, Kan., to John S. and Mabel (Fultz) Batchel. He died at his home in Glenwood Springs on March 6.He married Bette J. Patborsek on Aug. 8, 1948, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rifle. He has been an area resident for the past 60 years. Norman was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Glenwood Springs. He had owned and operated Batchel Sheet Metal Company in Aspen. After his retirement, Norman and Bette enjoyed living in Las Vegas for 10 years, enjoying the mild warm climate and golfing year-round. They returned to the Roaring Fork Valley two years ago to be close to family.Norman was preceded in death by his brothers, John Batchel and Bill Batchell; sister Maureen Gravino; and mother-in-law Sophie Patborsek.He is survived by his wife, Bette J. Batchel; daughter Renee K. Dallman; brother Larry Batchel; sisters Martha Horan, Irene Golden and their families; granddaughter Casey Walter and her husband, Lowell Walter; and great-grandsons Bennett and Brigden.
Aspen City Council approves new tenant contract for Wheeler Opera House gallery
Aspen City Council approved a contract with Daniel Joseph (DJ) Watkins during Tuesday’s regular meeting to move forward with his intentions to operate his proposed “Aspen Collective,” which is currently occupied by Mia Valley’s Valley Fine Art.
