Nonprofits help the valley go ’round

Dear Editor:

One way to appreciate our local nonprofits is to imagine a day without them. On such a day, one-half of our preschools would be closed. Young people would be without their mentors; seniors would spend yet another day alone. Our hiking trails would begin to deteriorate; our lecture halls would be dark and our music halls silent. And, of course, taxes would need to increase dramatically.

Happily this is not the case. If one were to measure the overall generosity of a community by counting the number of nonprofits that its residents support, we are a very generous populace! Aspen Community Foundation works with nonprofits from Aspen to Parachute that are actively working to sustain and improve the quality of life in our communities – our health, education, cultural life and general social welfare.

If you are a financial supporter of one or more of these nonprofit organizations, thank you! If you are a staff member, thank you for your hard work and dedication.

This week, March 12 through 16, has been designated Colorado Nonprofit Week. Which nonprofit benefits you or someone close to you?
