No protest in recall of Silt mayor

SILT, Colo. ” Silt Mayor Dave Moore says he is going to let the recall process take its course.
There was no protest filed with the town of Silt by the deadline of 5 p.m. Friday in response to a petition seeking to recall Moore. The issue will now go before the town board at its next regular meeting on Oct. 9, at which time it will set the recall election for April 1, 2008, during the town’s regularly scheduled municipal election.
Moore said that rather than file a protest, he prefers to wait for an election ” one in which he believes he will prevail.
The committee to recall Moore, spearheaded by Mayor Pro Tem Tod Tibbetts and his wife, Peggy, as well as several other citizens, needed 111 signatures from registered voters on the petition. The petition made the Sept. 14 deadline with 124 valid signatures.
“I appreciate the democratic process of which 111 [voters] have spoken,” Moore said. “But there has been so much time and attention on this when there are more important issues that face the town of Silt. I have a lot of things to say, but now isn’t the time. Later, I will have further statements concerning the issue.”
The recall petition dates to july and cites reasons including Moore’s failure to get a permit for a fence he built, failure to obtain a permit when he closed a road during construction at his Centre Town Homes subdivision and intervention into a town employee issue in which he did not have the authorization of the town board, along with other violations.
Moore, who was elected as mayor in April 2006, has said he may be guilty of some “procedural” violations, but nothing that warrants a recall.
Tod Tibbetts was not available for comment on Friday afternoon.
While Moore is not protesting the petition, he says he intends to campaign as he did to win his election.
“I am looking forward to chatting with my friends and neighbors in Silt again, which has been an exuberating experience,” Moore said. “For now, I am the proud first-time grandfather of a baby girl and I’m going on vacation ” both of which will receive my undivided attention.”
