No pool, so ARC is free

Aspen – The city’s recreation center on Maroon Creek Road has reopened for business after a one-week fall maintenance closure, but the pool won’t be open until later this week.

Due to what city spokeswoman Andrea Streff called “unforeseen circumstances” the James E. Moore Pool will not reopen to swimmers until Sept. 20.

“In the meantime,” Streff wrote in a prepared statement, “the Aspen Recreation Center would like to invite Aspen residents and guests to use the Lewis Ice Arena, cardio room, weight room, and climbing tower for free!”

She reported that the ARC will offer free admission to all locals and guests today and Wednesday, Sept. 19.

“The goal of last week’s maintenance closure is to keep the Aspen Recreation Center operating at the high level of service you have become accustomed to,” Streff continued, explaining that cleaning and maintenance was performed in all parts of the facility; the Lewis Ice Arena, climbing tower, cardio and weight rooms and the James E. Moore Pool.
