No peace in sight

Dear Editor:To Sue Gray I would say, take heart. Remember the words of that great Palestinian stateswoman Hanan Ashrawi. “I’ve survived many things including assassination attempts and interrogations and beatings and I won’t be terrorized by people who think they have a monopoly on people’s consciousness. One has to stand up for the truth.”Once again the Arabs have offered Israel recognition and peace within secure borders. Once again the Israeli government will set impossible conditions and refuse to negotiate. I often wonder why people waste their time discussing Middle East peace. As long as Israel controls the U.S. veto at the United Nations, there is not going to be peace. You would do better to spend your time preparing for war.Richard GordonAspen
