No harm in love

Aspen Times writer

Dear Editor:This is in response to Sharon Briggs’ letter (Aspen Times, July 16), in which she said “stand up for morality and decent living” by opposing gay and lesbian marriages.Ms. Briggs, there is never anything indecent or immoral about two people who love and care for each other. Our world could certainly use much more of that. After all, there’s far too much hatred, bigotry and prejudice in our lives, don’t you agree? If you find justification for your opinion in religion, by all means continue to practice and obey the dictates of your faith. But please have the courtesy to allow others to practice love according to the dictates of their own hearts. I assure you that gay and lesbian couples who are so in love as to want to marry each other can’t possibly harm you.Michele PowersBasalt
