No Elks, no glory

Dear Editor:

A huge thank-you to Aspen Elks Lodge local #224 for sponsoring Aspen’s third- and fourth-grade tackle football team! This was the first year back for tackle football at this level and it was an absolute blast for the kids, parents, coaches, and all volunteers involved. Our team was amazingly good – fast, fired up, and put lots of points on the board. The season ended Sunday on the Aspen High School field with a hard fought Super Bowl victory over Rifle. This season was a great success.

A special thank-you to my favorite Elks member, Ernie Fyrwald, who shares a birthday with my big fourth-grade lineman Riley Ormond – Jan. 26 every year. Ernie is almost 50 years his elder (that wasn’t nice) but continues to be an example to my son and all of us in our great community of Aspen. The Elks offer our kids opportunity to participate and inspire passion to succeed.

We very much appreciate it! Thank you.
