No decision yet
A recent article in The Aspen Times leaves the impression that the City Council has made a decision about the future of Bentley’s restaurant and bar at the Wheeler and the Valley Fine Art gallery (“Bentley’s future on the rocks,” Jan. 31).
Council was not asked to decide about those leases or the particular tenants. We all realize there is precious little affordable commercial space in downtown Aspen.
The City Council continues to look for ways to provide space for local serving and moderately priced businesses that are not able to compete with the rents paid by business serving the higher-end consumers. Pursuing that goal does not preclude renewing the current leases.

There is a lot of pent up energy among hikers and bikers to get into the high country, but snow fields, avalanche debris and high stream crossings are presenting challenges later than usual. Forest rangers with the Aspen-Sopris District provide trail condition reports that are updated each week so hikers and backpackers aren’t caught unaware.
