BEAVER CREEK, Colo. ” The foundation that operates the Vilar Performing Arts Center in Beaver Creek is holding off on any decision to change its name after benefactor Alberto Vilar was convicted of fraud.

The Vail Valley Foundation board decided Monday to make a recommendation to the Beaver Creek Resort Co., which used to run the center and still has a say in its operation.

Foundation President Ceil Folz declined to reveal the recommendation. She says Beaver Creek Resort officials will meet in a couple weeks.

Vilar was convicted in New York of swindling investors out of millions. He has denied wrongdoing.

Vilar gave millions of dollars to cultural institutions, including $7 million to rebuild the Beaver Creek theater. He had a home in Beaver Creek.
