Nice going

Dear Editor:Last Saturday, President Bush told us that there are encouraging reports that show the economy is gaining strength. In the GDP report by the Commerce Department, the fact is that the economy grew at the slowest rate since early 2003 (3 percent annually) and that this figure is down 1.5 percent from the previous quarter. Consumer spending showed a decrease, down 3 points from the previous quarter.Meanwhile, President Bush claims the budget deficit will be an improvement at $445 billion this year, although this is $145 billion greater than the 2003 White House projection of a $300 billion deficit for 2004.Nice going.Mabel MacdonaldAspen
