News in Brief
Aspen, CO Colorado
ASPEN – The Aspen Skiing Co. received conceptual approval from the City Council on Monday to host a three-day music festival in March.
The concerts will bring a number of bands to Wagner Park, which will require the Skico to cover the park in at least a foot of snow, either by trucking it in or using snowblowers. The event is aimed at boosting the economy.
The council had asked the Skico to consider using Rio Grande Park instead of Wagner, but the company said it needed to hold the event in the downtown core, citing financial risks of the initiative.
ASPEN – The Aspen Police Department will spend nearly $60,000 for a renovation of the patrol room in the Pitkin County Courthouse.
The City Council approved the expenditure Monday night. The application for approval cited a number of drawbacks in the setup of the current patrol room, including a lack of a designated area for dressing and no designated area for conducting interviews.
Furniture and partitions will cost $29,770, and a new locker system will cost $28,855.
