ASPEN ” Elementary school kids, along with members of the Aspen Volunteer Fire Department, got a bit of unexpected practice this week.

A fire alarm at Aspen Elementary School on Tuesday turned out to be a fire drill that was not reported in advance to the Aspen Volunteer Fire Department.

The call went out over the local dispatch system shortly before noon, sending one fire truck, four firefighters and an ambulance toward the school campus on Maroon Creek Road.

But before the truck got there, the fire fighters were instructed that it was a drill and that there was no fire.

Elementary school Principal Doreen Goldyn could not be reached for comment on the false alarm.
