A small, private memorial service to celebrate the life of Enron founder Ken Lay is planned for 2 p.m. Sunday at the Aspen Chapel.A “celebration of Ken’s life for family and friends” will follow in Houston on Wednesday, according a news release from the family’s spokeswoman. That ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church.”The Lay family asks that their privacy be respected as they mourn the loss of their husband, father, grandfather and brother,” the release says.

The city of Aspen and Pitkin County are accepting grant applications from area nonprofits for funding in 2007. Nonprofit organizations dedicated to working together to strengthen the quality of life in the Roaring Fork Valley are eligible to apply. The city and county provide funding to private nonprofit organizations.
