News in Brief

Repairs to Interstate 70 in Glenwood Canyon were completed Tuesday, a few days before the project’s scheduled completion date of Feb. 3.

A rock slide on New Year’s Day damaged the outer eastbound lane, a concrete barrier and a guardrail, forcing the Colorado Department of Transportation to close the lane while contractor GA Western repaired the roadway. The repair bill was $65,000.

The damaged area was just west of the Hanging Lake tunnel.

GrassRoots TV, Aspen’s community station, will host its first Grassies Awards show tonight to honor the best producers of 2005.

The public is not invited, but the event will air live from the station’s Red Brick studio from 7 to 8. Station manager Corby Anderson, who organized the show, hopes to have 30 or so producers attend.

Awards will honor, among other things, weirdest show, most outstanding use of community television and most outstanding use of the First Amendment.

“We’ve never done anything like it,” Anderson said. “We want [the producers] to connect, hang out, talk and also have some fun.”
