Pitkin County commissioners are recruiting candidates for the Clerk and Recorder’s position being vacated by Silvia Davis who held the position for 19 years. Commissioners must appoint an individual to serve the remainder of the current term, ending in January 2007. The Clerk and Recorder’s office oversees elections, recording of real estate transactions, preparation of county commissioner minutes and record management, motor vehicle titles and registrations, liquor licenses and marriage licenses.”It won’t be easy to fill Silvia’s shoes,” said Board of County Commissioners Chairwoman Patti Clapper. “We’re looking for someone who has a strong desire for public service, who is also a good manager and highly organized.”The annual salary for the position, per the Colorado Revised Statutes, is $72,057.44 and applicants must be Pitkin County residents. Wildland fires were burning on at least 3,715 acres in Colorado on Friday, according to the Rocky Mountain Area Coordination Center in Denver. The figure includes “wildland fire use fires,” which are managed for ecological restoration. At least 27 new fires were reported in the state on Thursday, burning a total of 795 acres. All were contained on initial attack.
