New sports editor joins The Aspen Times

ASPEN – Award-winning journalist Dale Strode, who once enjoyed a 10-year stint at The Aspen Times, returns to the paper Monday as its new sports editor.

Strode was hired last month and comes to Aspen from the Durango Herald, where he worked as the newspaper’s sports editor for five of his eight years there.

“The opportunity to return to Aspen and The Aspen Times at this point in my career is an opportunity that I refused to let pass by,” said Strode, 62.

A graduate of Glenwood Springs High School and the Missouri School of Journalism, Strode knows the Roaring Fork Valley well, having been born in Rifle and grown up in Glenwood Springs. He is an avid skier and has family in the valley.

He has worked at the Houston Post, the Grand Junction Sentinel and the Summit Daily News and helped start the Glenwood Independent before it merged with the Glenwood Post. He worked at The Aspen Times from 1988 to 1998.

“We are very excited to have Dale join our team,” said Gunilla Asher, manager of The Aspen Times. “We are really excited to see him cover the vast array of sports in the Aspen area. We know he will be up to the challenge.”
