New policy repels good teachers
Dear Editor: As of April 2004, the Aspen School Board has initiated a budget-cut policy for “new hires” (new teachers) which limits compensation for years of teaching experience to 10 years.Consequently, the starting salary caps at $42,O00, which is a potential salary decrease of between $20,000 and $30,000 per year for experienced teachers from other areas in the nation. Is this the way we encourage qualified, experienced teachers to come and live, teach and stay in the Aspen School District?Anne ByardAspen
