New on Highlands’ menu: ZG Grill

Two local businessmen will open ZG Grill in the space formerly occupied by Iguana’s Bar & Grille at the base of Aspen Highlands.Matt Zubrod and Graham Frandson, owners of Crust, a Highlands Village pizzeria, expect their new venture to be ready for business before Highlands’ Dec. 9 opening.ZG Grill will be run by chef Kurt Boucher. Boucher comes to the position with 20 years of experience, most recently as executive chef at the Pine Creek Cookhouse.Music will have an important role in the ZG scene. Bands will play several days a week for the après-ski crowd. In addition, the owners hope to have a piano player on hand for interactive entertainment with the crowds. A flat-screen TV will broadcast sporting events.The restaurant also will include a private, reservation-only dining room with an enhanced menu.Zubrod is the former executive chef at Willow Creek Bistro in the Ritz-Carlton Club at Aspen Highlands Village. He is also a James Beard Chef nominee who opened the DishAspen restaurant in downtown Aspen earlier this year. Frandson has operated a merchant services business in the area for several years. The two opened Crust, a classic pizza and salad restaurant, this summer.The Aspen Times, Aspen, Colo.
