New housing office director should be selected by end of next month

And then there were three.

As the final round of interviews gets under way to select the new housing authority executive director, three candidates are left in the game.

Narrowed from a field of seven applicants, the last set of two-hour interviews awaits the finalists either in the first or second week of August.

“I think the three candidates are very well qualified,” said housing board member Cari Britton. “Each individual has strengths in different areas but all are qualified for the job. I hope we have someone in before the end of August.”

The final interviews were supposed to be conducted this week. But coordinating the schedules of the seven housing board members, in the middle of summer, is proving to be one of the trickiest parts of the selection process.

Aside from the housing board members, the city and county managers, a few members of the public, and staff members of the housing office will be invited to give their input. The final decision, however, will be up to the housing board.

The names of the three remaining candidates were not released.
