New Glenwood Meadows hotels set to open

GLENWOOD SPRINGS – Two key management positions at the soon-to-open new hotels at Glenwood Meadows have been filled, and the hiring process is under way for a variety of other positions, the hotels’ Englewood-based developer, Stonebridge Companies, announced Wednesday.

The 124-room Residence Inn by Marriott is slated to open in mid-February, and the adjacent Courtyard by Marriott, with 101 rooms and a full restaurant, is expected to open sometime in late March or early April, according to Jeff Dougan, regional director of operations for Stonebridge.

General manager for the Residence Inn will be Myrna Green, whose background includes various positions with Choice Hotels, Starwood and Marriott International.

Ashley Thomas, a Colorado native who has also held operations and sales positions for Marriott, will be director of sales for both the Residence Inn and Courtyard.

“We could not be more pleased with the two people who have been selected to open our brand-new hotels in Glenwood Springs,” Kevin Mahoney, chief operating officer for Stonebridge Companies, said in a news release.

Green has more than 10 years of experience with Marriott International and has worked in hospitality for a total of 18 years. Thomas has had recent experience with the combination of Residence Inn and Courtyard, both in Colorado and in Florida, Mahoney said.

A general manager for the Courtyard by Marriott hotel will be named later, he said.

Stonebridge Companies also manages the Hampton Inn and Holiday Inn Express in Glenwood Springs.

“We’re excited about having the new hotels in Glenwood Springs,” Dougan said. “It’s a great market, and we’re obviously confident that these new Marriott products will do extremely well.”

Applications are currently being taken for a variety of positions at both hotels, he said, ranging from management and sales positions to front desk, housekeeping, guest services, and food and beverage.

Both hotels will eventually employ between 28 and 35 people during peak times, Dougan said. Anyone interested in applying can stop by the trailer that temporarily serves as the office on the hotel construction site and pick up an application, he said.

Green’s career in hospitality started in Alaska several years ago, and her recent duties with Marriott have included supervisor, operations manager and director of rooms. She will coordinate, direct and manage day-to-day operations at the hotel.

Thomas began her hospitality career at Homestead Studio Suites where she worked her way up from a guest service representative to general manager. For the new hotels in Glenwood Springs she will be in charge of group and convention business, as well as developing yearly sales and marketing plans.

The Residence Inn by Marriott is located at 125 Wulfsohn Road, and can be reached by calling 928-0900. The Courtyard by Marriott is at 105 Wulfsohn Road. The number there is 947-1300.
