ASPEN ” Aspen Highlands Ski Patrol is seeking volunteer bootpackers to help stabilize snow on its renowned steeps, including Highland Bowl.
The work will begin in early November, snow permitting, and continue through early December.
Work consists of marching down and up steep terrain attempting to pack down early season storm layers. Work days run from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday, with lunch in the field.
Required gear is an avalanche beacon, alpine touring-type boots with a vibram sole (or telemark or snowboard boots), rock skis, warm winter clothing, rudimentary skiing skills and a desire to work outdoors in a sometimes harsh environment. Skiers, telemarkers and snowboarders are all welcome.
Compensation is a daily $100 credit toward any season pass product the Aspen Skiing Company offers (five-day minimum required to obtain the credit). Sorry, but no day tickets or cash will be offered.
Anyone wanting to volunteer for fun can show up and help out.
