National Weather Service issues flood advisory for the Roaring Fork River in Pitkin County
The National Weather Service on Saturday issued a flood advisory through Friday evening for the Roaring Fork River in Pitkin County.
“Water levels along the Roaring Fork near Aspen will increase to above bankfull later tonight and remain high for the next five to six days. Minor flooding of low-lying areas near the river is possible. Additional heavy rain could increase the flow,” according to the advisory.
At 11 a.m. Saturday, the stage was 3.9 feet. Bankfull stage is 4 feet, while flood stage is 5 feet.
The National Weather Service forecasts that the river will rise to nearly 4.3 feet by early Monday morning.
At 5 feet, flooding of lowland areas adjacent to the river can be expected in Aspen.
