Musicians supporting musicians

Dear Editor:On Friday the 13th, The Dogwood Grill hosted a swell jazz party in swingin’, hip Basalt. Word got around and the private clambake let in anyone who ponied up. It was all too classy thanks in no small part to the musicians who performed in honor of Mr. Dave Schappert, local piano genius. Many thanks to: Jan Garrett, Jeanie Walla, Chris Bank, Terry Bannon, Tim Fox, Bob Levy, Jon Michel, Tom Paxton, Dave Schappert himself and the venerable Walt Smith. Other cats showed up ready, but didn’t play. This always happens, and we should thank them: David Bluefield, Steve Cole, Roberta Lewis and Walter Hanselman. Thanks also to Alex, Sarah and Marlene of the AspenPeak Magazine crew, Nancy Kelly, and Thea Bent of the Dogwood and the National Jam Foundation, Inc.Mr. Schappert plays at the Dogwood occasionally, so dine there on the chance he’ll show up again.
