CARBONDALE – Highway 133 was closed for nearly two hours when a rainstorm dumped enough water to trigger a mudslide south of Carbondale, authorities said.

The closure about eight miles south of Carbondale was reported close to 1 p.m. Mud and rocks buried the highway between the Nettle (Creek) Curve and Crystal River Country Estates, officers with the Carbondale Fire Department reported to the Pitkin County Communications Center.

The Colorado Department of Transportation moved heavy equipment to the scene and opened one lane by 2:52 p.m. Both lanes were reported open at 4:30 p.m.
