Much-needed funding

Dear Editor:

I am pleased to announce the Aspen Education Foundation’s (AEF) continued commitment to funding a variety of programs for the Aspen School District’s 2008-09 school year. Funding from AEF totals slightly more than $425,000, and will provide a variety of critical curriculum needed in our schools.

AEF works with the Aspen School District to fund essential needs among our four schools. Programs funded this year include, but are not limited, to the following: a mathematics specialist at the elementary school; the K-8 literacy and math program specialist at the Aspen Community School; a success specialist at the middle school; and the college coordinator at the Aspen High School.

Because Colorado is ranked 48th in the nation for state-provided school funding, AEF’s support is necessary to provide our children with a quality education. It is with my deepest gratitude that I acknowledge the generous contributors of AEF. Every one of our children is touched by the programs AEF funds and is on their way toward a bright future.

Thank you to AEF and the many donors who make these grants possible.

Diana Sirko

Superintendent, Aspen School District
