Moving ahead on marketing

Dear Editor:

On behalf of the Aspen Chamber Resort Association (ACRA), we would like to express our heartfelt thanks to all those who supported Referendum 5A and the creation of the Aspen Local Marketing District (ALMD).

Although the measure was withdrawn from the November ballot due to inconsistencies, ACRA is committed to collaboration with our lodging, business and nonprofit communities who put much effort into the creation of the ALMD. We remain steadfast in our belief that the ALMD and the proposed 1 percent lodging-tax increase is the best way to protect Aspen’s visitor base – the increased marketing dollars it would bring to Aspen will help attract visitors and sustain local businesses now and in the future.

To this end, ACRA and the Aspen Lodging Association are currently meeting to discuss an immediate strategy for securing other marketing dollars for 2010. While we are disappointed with the recent turn of events, it’s only a short-term setback; we will continue to market our world-class resort with the funds that are available.

Again, thank you for the support of Referendum 5A, and your continued support; we move forward together.
