MountainSummit Festival a total group effort

Dear Editor:On behalf of the entire staff of the Wheeler Opera House and Mountainfilm in Telluride, we want to thank all those individuals and businesses that helped us launch the MountainSummit Festival this past weekend. We think it’s safe to say that all those who came were knocked out by the festival and are looking forward to it coming back at the same time next year – and we’re looking forward to it too.Special thanks to everyone at The Aspen Times, particularly Stewart Oksenhorn and Jon Maletz for their exceptional news coverage and enthusiasm, to the Ritz-Carlton Destination Club Showroom, Ambient Technologies, Paragon Technology Group, and the Aspen Art Museum for being our off-site locations for the Gallery Walk, and to Aspen Brewing Co., Back Door Catering, Love Grown Foods, Main Street Bakery, Mountain Life Baking, O Water, Parallel 15, and The Big Wrap for being our on-site catering providers. Thanks also to Explore Booksellers and Escape Bistro, Plum TV, Limelight Lodge, and Berthod Motors for helping us out in a myriad of ways, and Aspen Public Radio, Radio Free Aspen, and KSNO-FM for their airtime and interest in our festival. And finally, thanks to the Aspen Institute and staff at the Doerr-Hosier Center for hosting our Moving Mountains: Symposium on Food, and to Mike Marolt and Oksenhorn for helping us with the emcee and Q&A duties with our programs.Starting a new festival is one of the most challenging projects a performance venue can ever face, and we were fortunate enough to have so many friends encouraging us all through the process – not only those listed above but many more than we can put into an open letter. There is a real appetite in our valley for the kind of thought-provoking, life-affirming, and action-motivating forum that MountainSummit provided, and we know that our second festival in 2010 will make the investment of time and energy from all our friends prove worthwhile, many times over. Celebrate Indomitable Spirit!Gram Slaton, executive directorHeather Larson, senior managerWheeler Opera House
