Mountain Mayhem: This is Halloween

This is Halloween.
Halloween remains a popular holiday around the Aspen campus, and this year it fortunately fell on a Friday night, which is why I’m featuring favorite photos from Halloweens past this week.
After the younger set finished trick-or-treating at the hot spots of the North 40, Burlingame, Cemetery Lane, Smuggler Park, and beyond, the adults hit the town in costumes ranging from a pop star and footballer to traditional witches to jewel thieves from the Louvre.
Among the popular places to be were the W, who hosted a haunted house, and the Caribou Club, who always opens up to the public for an annual celebration, so long as guests present themselves at the host stand in costume. The Elks Lodge was decorated to the nines for a DJ gig and Zig Zag hosted a locals’ party in their semi-new digs. Campo created a Halloween scene in the bar and dining room, and AM7 featured DJ Lo-G.
For those who are interested in continuing the festivities — these are family-friendly — you’ve got opportunities this weekend. On Saturday, Nov. 1, at 6 p.m., longtime local Dean Sobol leads his haunting Ute Cemetery Tour, delving into the tales of the town’s pioneering souls. It lasts 60 minutes and requires advance reservations — aspenwalkingtours.com.
On Sunday, Nov. 2, head to the Aspen Art Museum for a Dia de los Muertos celebration with art activities, performances, family portraits, and more.
The event kicks off with a bilingual conversation between visiting artist and educator Maria de Los Angeles and local artist Gabriela Mejia. For more information, visit aspenartmuseum.org.
