Mountain Mayhem: Tenth annual ArtCrush in Aspen
The Aspen Art Museum turned up the “wow” factor for the 10th anniversary of ArtCrush on Aug. 2. The museum’s annual summer benefit has always been a celebration of the senses, blending contemporary art, fine wine, exceptional cuisine and high fashion, though this year it soared above and beyond all previous summer benefits.
The evening began with an opening reception and silent auction on the grounds of the museum’s Mill Street facility. For dinner, which included an award presentation and a live auction, guests made their way across the Mill Street Bridge, which was festooned in hot-pink fabric on the floor and wood panels and potted roses flanking the sides. Staged in Rio Grande Park, an open-air tunnel led to an extravagant tent, both awash in vibrant orange hues.
The visionaries behind the event scheme were Chris Stone and David Fox, of Stonefox Architecture and Interior Design, who cited artist Ernesto Neto, this year’s honoree at ArtCrush, as their source of inspiration.
“Ernesto’s use of vivid color and his interactive work” influenced their overall concept, Fox said.
As guests arrived at the tent, they were greeted with outstretched arms serving shots.
“We wanted to engage the participants with a cocktail,” Fox said. “The orange tunnel with arms offering up shots of orange-scented tequila with a touch of absinthe was our way of rolling out the welcome mat.
“We are very proud to have been part of the ArtCrush design team for the past eight years. The new museum provides a grand opportunity for Aspen to experience a dynamic and challenging art program for years to come.”
