Mountain Mayhem: Fore! for football

The Aspen Gridiron Classic teed off at the Aspen Golf Club on Sunday, June 8, a Colorado bluebird day with a shotgun start. Celebrating its thirteenth year, the tournament serves as a fun and interactive fundraiser for the Aspen football program, supporting the Mountain West Youth Program and the Aspen Middle and High School programs.
The invitational golf scramble featured a combination of traditional golf on Aspen’s municipal course, plus a hole-in-one challenge, a football toss, and a field goal competition with prizes awarded to top contenders.
As we know, it takes a village to pull off events, and this one featured Aspen football players working as caddies, coaches and parents participating in the competition and volunteering, and the generosity of local businesses donating items for the silent auction.
The Aspen Gridiron Classic brings in dollars that are used to purchase new uniforms and weight training equipment, as well as provide scholarship opportunities, truly making an impact on youth football.

Nearly 500,000 pounds of concrete dropped by helicopter for new Snowmass lift
Helicopters shouldn’t fly. That would be the takeaway if one was faced with a multi-ton Black Hawk — known by its owners as “The Lorax” — hovering overhead with 4,000 pounds of concrete in its grasp, its blades kicking up 35-mile-per hour winds and turning an otherwise pleasant summer morning into a violent, stick-ensued dust bowl.
