Ever since the July 21 premiere of Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” movie, featuring Margot Robbie in the title role and Ryan Gosling as Ken, hot-pink has been surfacing in every direction. Referred to as “Barbiecore” fashion, moviegoers line up outside the Isis theatre where it’s listed as playing through Sept. 7, with bold, hot-pink hues on many.

I’ve been invited to a few “Barbie” parties of late, including a pre-screening party with Mattel-themed pastries and sweets and a private run of the movie at the Isis presented by Aspen Film Society’s Next Gen.

As the film continues to climb at the box office, on Aug. 23, “Barbie” surpassed the Super Mario Bros. Movie by becoming the highest-grossing film of 2023 with $575 million domestically and $1.3 billion internationally. Sounds like more “Barbie” parties are in order to keep this momentum going!
