Mountain Fair thanks
Dear Editor:The 35th annual Carbondale Mountain Fair was a wonderful success – a success because so many people from this fantastic community of ours came together to create this event. They volunteer their time and talent. They put their differences behind them and unite to make Mountain Fair the best it can be.Today I listen to the news of the horrible heat wave hitting the Midwest and East Coast, and the repercussions they are bracing for, and I think of the irony that I might have complained that “it was a wee bit hot and the fair would’ve been more perfect if it was cooler,” and then I realize how happy all those in the Midwest and East would be if all they had to worry about during the heat wave would be going to Mountain Fair and having to occasionally stand in a mister or jump in the ditch. Thanks to the town of Carbondale, the Sopris Park neighbors, the artists, the musicians, the Carbondale Council on Arts and Humanities board, the Mountain Fair Dream Team and, most of all, the volunteers who come together to make this happen.May we come together in peace every year!Amy KimberlyDirector, Carbondale Mountain Fair

The town of Basalt is working on an update to its 2007 master plan. The document will be a blueprint for how and where the town will grow. But the family that has owned a 180-acre ranch at the edge of town for nearly 60 years objected Tuesday to the document’s parameters for its property.
