Mothers are liars

The Town Mothers are not preserving the “spirit of Carbondale” when they attack citizens personally and misrepresent facts to the community. Go to Town Hall and check the Mothers’ traffic and highway misrepresentations. They are so far off, it is outrageous. They claim Highway 133 improvement costs will be $36 million. Town officials and CDOT determined costs ranging from $7 million to $9 million, including a new bridge. They also misstate new traffic trips on Highway 133 by 100 percent, according to the town. I would be scared, too, if the traffic was double what it really will be. The Mothers say Highway 133 is fine as is. They must think our trustees are idiots for wasting hundreds of thousands of dollars in these tough times to design a beautiful new highway. The Mothers should explain how a few smaller stores would generate millions for the town and highway instead of scaring and confusing voters. The Marketplace is critical to the future of my children and grandchildren and so many others in our community. Why? The Town Mothers want higher property taxes instead of sales tax, but municipal property tax hikes will compete with our schools, fire district and county government for the same dollars. You can’t preserve community that way. If a Sanders Ranch-type shopping center is approved out in the county because the Folks and Mothers stopped two infill projects in Carbondale, how will the Mountain Folks and Town Mothers explain themselves? Carbondale will continue to suffer for years to come from unintended consequences.Voters should trust the integrity of town staff, the trustees, P&Z, EDC and our Chamber of Commerce, not the Town Mothers. Vote yes!Susan HoweCarbondale
