More than just English

Dear Editor:

On Sunday, Feb. 13, four adult students of English In Action had the opportunity to take a ski lesson for the first time in our lives. This was such a good experience for all of us.

Everyone had a really good time learning a new skill. At the beginning, we were really scared because we didn’t know how to control the skis, but with the help and encouragement from our instructor, we got more confidence and with that we could start having fun. By the end of the day, on everyone’s face I saw a lot of excitement and happiness of having accomplished something that we never thought could be possible for us to do.

Personally, because it’s a sport that I cannot afford, that’s why – on behalf of all the students – I want to thank Aspen Skiing Co. for donating lift tickets and gear, and Chris Palasz for donating his time for a full-day lesson. Also I want to thank English In Action for this great experience that they gave us. English In Action is an organization that teaches English to immigrants with the help of volunteer tutors. So far my experience with this program has been very beneficial because beyond the English that they teach us we have the chance to do different things in the community.
