More terrain opens at Aspen, Snowmass
ASPEN ” No need to risk losing your ski pass for pouching powder stashes in closed areas ” the Aspen Skiing Co. is opening more terrain at both Aspen and Snowmass.
The West Side story begins with the opening of Ruthies (both the run and the chair); FIS (both the run and the chair); the upper portion of Red’s Run and Percy’s.
Open terrain stops at the bottom of Snowbowl so you will not be able to ski down to 1A or the gondola. Take the Ruthie’s Chair back up and ski Red’s or FIS back to Spar.
At Snowmass, the Sam’s Knob Chair joins the mix and Banzai, Upper Velvet Falls, Coney and Dawdler runs are added to the growing list on the big hill.
Also happening Saturday is the Summit for Life, a nighttime uphill race on Aspen Mountain with a party at the Sundeck. 5:15 p.m. is the recreational start and there is a 6 p.m. start time for competitors. Those who plan only to party can begin uploading at the gondola at 6:30 p.m.
Registration for the event ” which benefits the Chris Klug Foundation and is aimed at bringing awareness and education to organ and tissue donation ” is open all day.
Participants can register at race headquarters, located in the conference room of the Aspen Square Condominiums, until 5 p.m.
The cost is $50 the day of the race. By registering, participants are committing to raise $160 in requested pledges, however, there is a minimum of $60 in pledges required.
