More snow next year?
Dear Editor:
Attention to the Iceland volcanic eruption has been directed toward the consequences of the canceled airline flights. On the other hand, two other effects have been ignored.
First, the volcanic dust in the form of particulate matter (PM 2.5 and PM 10) is going to have an adverse effect on rates of asthma and chronic respiratory disease in Europe.
Second, crop yields will be adversely effected from the dust partially obscuring sunlight. Serendipitously this may result in a better snow year in Aspen next year.
