ASPEN ” A winter weather advisory is in effect for the mountains of western Colorado, including the Aspen area, where widespread snow is expected to develop Monday and continue through Tuesday morning.

Hazardous driving conditions are likely over mountain passes, where 5 to 12 inches of new snow are expected, according to the National Weather Service office in Grand Junction. A mix of snow and rain is predicted in the valleys.

The forecast for Aspen in particular calls for 1 to 3 inches on Monday, another 2 to 4 inches Monday night and perhaps another inch on Tuesday, according to the weather service.

Highs in the 20s are expected Monday, dropping into the teens on Tuesday. Overnight lows of zero to 10 above are foreast Monday and Tuesday nights.

Partly sunny skies are expected Wednesday with highs of 25 to 35. Thursday’s forecast calls for a 30 percent chance of snow and highs again of 25 to 35. Friday’s outlook calls for partly sunny skies and highs in the 20s, according to the weather service.
