More snow in Aspen forecast

ASPEN ” A snow advisory is in effect for much of western Colorado on Friday and Saturday, including the mountains surrounding Aspen and Snowmass, where 5 to 10 inches of new snow is forecast.

The advisory is in place from noon Friday to noon on Saturday. Light snow is expected to intensify overnight, bringing 5 to 10 inches by midday on Saturday, according to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction.

Southwest winds of 10 to 15 mph and gusts of up to 25 mph will result in blowing snow over the high passes in the southern mountans of Colorado on Friday afternoon, the weather service said.

More snow is in the forecast on Sunday and Sunday night, as well, according to the weather service.

Skiers at Snowmass found 5 inches of fresh snow on the slopes Friday morning, according to the Aspen Skiing Co.’s snow report, issued shortly before 6 a.m. Four inches fell overnight at Aspen Highlands, while Aspen Mountain picked up 3 inches and Buttermilk got 2 inches, according to the Skico.
