More May madness
Aspen Times Weekly
There were so many new faces at “May Madness” and I took so many photos that I’ll run more this week. “May Madness” is an annual dinner-dance with silent and live auctions held as a benefit for the Aspen Education Foundation (AEF), which for many years has funded special projects at the Aspen Public Schools that are not covered by the budget. The party is always a great social gathering and this year it was held at the new Doerr-Hosier Center at the Aspen Institute. The event raised $185,000 after expenses for the schools.
Stopping by for an offseason visit were former Aspenites Brad Emerick and Rodney Briggs of Louisville, Colo., and Scottsdale, Ariz. They stayed at Terry Butler’s Residence Hotel downtown. When living in Aspen, Brad managed the Dolomite Villas and Rodney worked for Lita Heller, Terry Butler and Ann Marcus at their shop, “Special Occasions,” which was located in the Red Onion building. They spent an evening catching up on Aspen news with friend Linda Harlan, and enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Bella Mia restaurant with Joy and Harold Maniloff. They wanted to say hello to all their Aspen friends. Rodney now works with Ralph Lauren and Brad owns BE Clean in Colorado.
I also had an e-mail Craig Dickson, who is an old friend of Brad’s and Rodney’s. Craig also works with Ralph Lauren in Las Vegas, Nev., arranging special events and parties for the firm. When in Aspen, Craig was production manager at The Aspen Times; after leaving here, he was production manager for “Wine Spectator” in California and then did graphics for several organizations in Las Vegas.
An exhibit titled “Pastels and Wood” will be held May 22 through June 22 at the Red Brick Center for the Arts. The artists’ reception is planned for Thursday, June 5, from 5-7 p.m. and will feature artists David Notor, Betsy Dunbar, Ida Burnaman, Carol Murphy, Larry Lefner and Patrick Winger.
Unercurrent … The glorious green of spring!
