More indoor tennis

Dear Editor:

We are writing in support of the development of an indoor-tennis facility in Aspen. Through our part ownership of an apartment in Highlands we thoroughly enjoy our regular visits to Aspen – and we would enjoy them all the more if we could play tennis in winter.

But, there also needs to be a broader reason and concern. Close to Highlands is the superb sports/recreational facility that you have constructed that provides terrific opportunities to residents, especially to young people. When we look to the need for recreation for young people, then tennis is really a wonderful means – not just for the physical enjoyment it can provide, but also for the all-round development of a young person. As supporters, for example of the Washington, D.C., Tennis Foundation over many years, we have seen how indoor tennis for young people can have a transformative and meaningful impact.

So, we do hope that Aspen can move ahead with the envisaged indoor-tennis facility.
