More exit 116 closures on Interstate 70 this week
Special to The Aspen Times
Question: What is the schedule for completing the utility work around Interstate 70 exit 116?
Answer: The completion of the storm-sewer drain-line project for the Glenwood Springs Grand Avenue bridge project is anticipated to wrap up the first week of April.
Three new storm drains will service the new traffic roundabout on the corner of Sixth and Laurel. This project is an upgrade to the existing system, replacing metal drains with longer-lasting and wider concrete drains. The alignment of these drainage pipes runs right under the I-70 interchange at exit 116.
To accomplish this work safely and expediently, the exit 116 eastbound onramp will be closed from Monday through Friday.
The eastbound offramp will remain open with the exception of Wednesday, when crews will be paving in the area, so both the exit 116 eastbound onramp and offramp will be closed Wednesday from noon to 4 p.m. The paving must be performed in the day to allow for workable asphalt temperatures. The westbound onramp and offramp will not be affected by the work this week and will remain open.
Also this week, crews will move large drill rigs to another location. This move requires a full closure of I-70 beginning Wednesday night at midnight to 4 a.m.
