Monopolizing on parking fees
October 17, 2007
City governments are monopolies. A major function of city council is to keep the monopoly under control.
Instead, our Aspen City Council capitulated to the money dreams of one department at the expense of the entire city. Parking fees were doubled.
It is now cheaper to drive to Target than shop at Miner’s, Ajax Bike or Sandy’s. And all the cars that used to pay to park in front of the shops most likely will now park in the two-hour free zone, justifying the stupid request for $1 million parking meters in the neighborhoods.
Aspen City Council is acting irresponsibly.
