Mistrial in vehicular homicide case

A Fort Collins woman’s vehicular homicide trial ended in a mistrial Wednesday because of two jurors’ poor health. The decision by Judge James Boyd means Stormy Lindblom, 25, will be tried again April 24 on charges of vehicular homicide, driving under the influence and careless driving causing death.Prosecutor Gail Nichols had called nine of her 11 witnesses but will have to start anew next month. The trial began Monday with jury selection, which took all day. A jury of 12, plus an alternate, was seated Monday evening. A woman was excused Tuesday for health reasons, which brought in the alternate. But another man also was excused Wednesday morning. It was possible to continue with 11 jurors, but Boyd declared a mistrial.Lindblom was arrested early New Year’s Day in 2005 after the vehicle she was driving slid off the road between Redstone and Carbondale. The vehicle rolled and struck a tree, killing Josanna Morningstar Reece, 22, of Redstone.A Colorado State Patrol trooper testified at an earlier hearing that Lindblom’s preliminary breath test showed a blood-alcohol level of 0.15. The state’s limit is 0.08.Lindblom’s attorney has questioned the validity of the test and indicated that Lindblom was coerced during the trooper’s questioning.
