Missing the big picture

Dear Editor:

Growing up in the Roaring Fork Valley in the 1960s and 1970s, Gary Hubbell’s exposure to racism in any palpable form was probably limited to what he could glean from watching sports on TV (“Obama: Our first affirmative action president,” Nov. 8, Aspen Times Weekly).

He misses the big picture as he warns of tax increases under the Democrats, as this Republican administration is busily nationalizing losses while continuing to privatize profits. At this moment, those lazy, indolent, obese taxpayers are bailing out one huge corporation after another, but by God, they better not expect affordable health care.

Hubbell’s diatribe is a poisonous, divisive attack based on Rush Limbaugh’s fact-free rants. The country needs to pull together to work through this massive economic crisis, the roots of which stem from deregulation and greed in the extreme. This offensive, racist article is part of the problem, not the solution. Lastly, Gary, are you releasing your SAT scores?
