Missing hiker at park found alive

ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK, Colo. ” An aerial search of Rocky Mountain National Park is over, with the discovery of a missing Virginia man — alive.

Park spokeswoman Kyle Patterson says 61-year-old Brandt Everhart of Suffolk, Virginia was located this afternoon, walking with two other hikers near the Chasm Lake area.

Rangers have made contact with Everhart, who’s walking down the Chasm Lake Trail. But Patterson says the weather is starting to turn cold and windy, so rangers will wait to assess his condition until everyone has reached a lower elevation.

Everhart is expected to reach the trailhead at approximately 5 p.m.

His hiking partner notified park staff about 8:45 Wednesday night that Everhart had not made it back to the trailhead as expected.

The two had separated about 12 hours earlier.
